Club joins civic leader to support mental health charity

Sochin Karate Club staged a Tai Chi session at beautiful Whitstable Castle to raise the profile of the mental health charity East Kent Mind.
The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Keji Moses, attended the session to support East Kent Mind, which she has selected as her Charity of the Year.
The session was led by the Chief Training Instructor at Sochin Karate Club, Georges Dussart, who is a 6th Dan black belt with more than five decades of involvement in the sport.
Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese mind-body practice that involves a series of slow, gentle movements and postures combined with controlled breathing. It originated as a martial art but is now widely practiced for its health and wellness benefits, including stress reduction and improved balance. Because of its historic links to martial arts many karateka also perform Tai Chi.
Funds from the event went towards East Kent Mind as well as supporting Sochin Karate Club’s This Girl Can campaign to encourage women and teenage girls to take up the sport. Currently the club is supported by Active Kent and Medway and is able to offer subsidised training sessions to new women members.
