Sensei Sam delivers Masterclass for county

Karateka from across Kent took part in a Masterclass session delivered by Sensei Sam Birch from Shotokan Connect.
Sensei Sam, 6th Dan, is the Chief Instructor at the Red Lion Shotokan Karate Club as well as serving on the Quality Assurance Committee of the national association, Shotokan Connect and instructing at national courses.

Sensei Sam has competed extensively at both regional and national levels, earning multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals in Kata and Kumite. He also spent two years as a member of the KUGB England Kata Squad, representing his country with dedication and skill.
The session Sensei Sam delivered took aspects of multiple Heian Katas and showed their application in Bunkai. After the session he worked with Sensei Georges Dussart to conduct grading assessments for a number of members of Sochin Karate Club, including Mae Rosen, who earned a bronze in the Shotokan Connection National Championships this autumn, achieved 2nd Kyu.
The next Karate Masterclass being hosted by Sochin Karate Club will be the visit of Sensei Neil Jerome on Monday, 1 December. The all grades session starts at 7pm and will cost £10 for non club members. Email info@sochinkarateclub.co.uk, or contact the club via Facebook Messenger.
Sensei Neil, 6th Dan, is a senior member of the HDKI GB however now lives and teaches in Trondheim University, Norway. With decades of experience he’s a popular instructor in the UK, Norway and now throughout Europe.
Neil is most known for his style of karate instruction, which encourages exploration of technique beyond basic form. Originally inspired by self-defence, he began training with the KUGB while at university in Manchester.
Sochin Karate Club is supported by Active Kent and Medway enabling the club to offer subsidised training sessions to women to encourage more to take up the sport.
